Q:   Can you tell me about PGDM?
A:

PGDM Full form is Post Graduate Diploma in Management which is a 2-years diploma course offered by the institutes that are recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and which are autonomous and not affiliated with any university. It is not mandatory that a PGDM is equal to MBA.

PGDM institutes accreditation by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) makes an institute's PGDM course equivalent to an MBA. There are a large number of similarities between the curriculum of both MBA and PGDM. An MBA institute follows a fixed curriculum as it will be based on the university guidelines which occasionally may not be aligned to industry requirements.

Autonomous institutes do not follow university standards, so it has the flexibility to align its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. Some of the PGDM from IIMs, XLRI etc has more value then MBA. However, MBA of FMS DU, IIFT, etc. have similar value as IIMs.

Students are advised to chose institute based on its ranking, not on the nomenclature of degree. Refer https://www.shiksha.com/mba/ranking/top-mba-colleges-in-india/2-2-0-0-0 for ranking of B-Schools and their degree management courses.

Yes, CMAT is much easier that CAT exam. Despite the fact that CMAT and CAT syllabus are same and that CMAT has two more sections than CAT the former is much easier than the latter. The CAT exam is usually of moderate to high difficulty level, whereas the CMAT exam is of easy to moderate difficulty level.

There are key differences between CMAT and CAT which make the former easier. There is no sectional time limit in CMAT so candidates do not face the pressure of completing a given section within certain time limit. In CAT there are 4-5 Reading Comprehension passages which are 500-600 words, and 12-14 question.

In CMAT there is usually, only one Reading Comprehension passage, having 4 questions. The Quantitative Aptitude questions of CMAT are also easier than CAT and so are Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation questions. It is easier to score high percentile in CMAT as the number of applicants is more than one Lacs less in CAT.

Q:   Which are the best PGDM courses and colleges?
A:

There are so many business schools in India that it's impossible to point out which are the best. Sure, there are ratings, awards, etc. , but I don't believe in them. I'm a tried-and-tested kind of person, therefore, in my opinion, the International Management Institute (IMI-K) is one of the best business school in India. I've visited the campus several times. It is widely renowned for its faculty and curriculum, which I've found to be exemplary. High-end technology and first-rate facilities both make this institute a niche above the rest. Top recruiting companies and best-of-the-lot placements, too, make this institute a pioneering ruler. Students studying at this institute go on to grab hefty placements with perks. Of course, the latter is based on the hard work of the candidate. But generally, all IMI-K students perform well thanks to the institutes quality education. There's also Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), which is quite popular among MBA aspirants. Haven't been there, though.

Q:   What is PGDM? What is the difference between MBA and PGDM?
A:

There is no difference between MBA and PGDM programs. In India only Universities can award MBA degree. Universities and colleges affiliated to universities which award MBA management degree follow syllabus approved by University.

Syllabus doesn't have flexibility for educational changes to align with industry requirements as approval process are long and bureaucratic in universities. B-Schools which are independent and award PGDM have liberty to modify their syllabus easily. Industry value some PGDM degree more than MBAs.

Q:   What is the difference between MBA and PGDM? Is PGDM equivalent to MBA?
A:

Master in Business Administration (MBA) is a two year degree course in the field of management. In India, MBA degree can be awarded by any recognized university or by a Business School affiliated to any university. Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a two years Diploma course offered by the institutes that are recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and which are autonomous and not affiliated to any university.

Autonomous institutes do not follow university standards, so it is have the flexibility to align its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. Some of the PGDM from IIMs, XLRI etc has more value then MBA.

However MBA of FMS DU, IIFT etc. have similar value as IIMs. Students are advised to chose Institute based on its ranking not on nomenclature of degree.

Refer https://www.shiksha.com/mba/ranking/top-mba-colleges-in-india/2-2-0-0-0 for ranking of BSchools and their degree management courses.

Q:   What PGDM courses are offered in Canada? I am a final year BBA student.
A:

You can apply for Global Business Management or International Business Management graduate certificate programs in Canada. Also if you want to specialize in marketing, finance or HR, these courses are also available. But Global business management programme is of 2 years mostly where you are eligible to get 2 to 3 years of PSWV. Rest are of 1 years where you get only 1 year PSWV. PSWV - Post Study Work Visa.

Q:   Can You tell me about PGDM?
A:

PGDM is like a "Corporate Boot Camp" designed for the real world. Unlike a traditional MBA that can get stuck with old-school textbooks, a PGDM is super flexible; if a new industry trend like AI or Fintech pops up, it's added to your syllabus almost immediately. It's less about memorizing theory for exams and more about practical skills, case studies, and personality grooming. Recruiters love PGDM grads because they come "job-ready" with the modern tools and confidence needed to handle a boardroom. If your goal is a high-paying corporate role rather than an academic or government job, PGDM is definitely the smarter, faster track.
