CRISIL Now Pioneers Grading of Education Institutions; Will Start with Business Schools
CRISIL launched a new service on January 10, 2011 - grading of educational institutions. As an initiation, it has released grades for 24 management programmes offered across 20 business schools in India. The service is being seen as an independent, robust and all-round assessment of the quality of the education an institute imparts. After business schools, CRISIL will also grade programmes of education institutions of other categories.
This grading process is not to be seen as ranking of management education or other programmes but as an in-depth and interactive evaluation exercise which will offer valuable insights into student profile, faculty profile, curriculum, and best practices adopted by the institute. The results will be available free of charge on the CRISIL website and over time, will help in raising the bar of quality of education sector as a whole.
For business schools, CRISIL will grade each programme on a national level (relative to other similar programmes across India) and at a state level (relative to other programmes in the state). The programmes that were rated the best (National A***) among the 24 management programmes at the national level included:
- PGDM programme of Xavier Institute of Management (XIM)
- MBA programme of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)
- PGDM programme of SP Jain Institute of Management Research (SPJIMR)
- MBA (International Business) programme of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT)
The benchmarking of different education programmes across India will help in several ways:
- It will help students and parents make informed choices,
- Recruiters will be able to used the information for more focused recruitment drives, better aligned with corporate objectives
- Institutes will be able to use the info for deciding their quality improvement strategies.
