DU is planning to decentralize Examination Practices
Delhi University is planning to decentralize the examination process; this decision is an extension of DU's decision to scrap the five of its postgraduate commerce, finance and management programmes and validate the Common Admission Test (CAT) score conducted by IIMs. Furthermore, it is planning to delegate the examination authorities to the faculties and departments to control and conduct their respective exams.
Moreover, this year the university has scrapped FMS entrance test which was conducted for admission to its full-time MBA programmes. While in the academic year 2010-2011, the entrance test for courses like Masters of Business Economics, Masters of Finance and Control, Masters of International Business and Masters of Human Resource and Organizational Development were handed over to CAT.
The Proposal has acted as an icing on the cake:
The purpose of this decentralization of exam process is to relieve the exam's cell from pressure and to focus more on the undergraduate semester exams. Moreover, academicians said that it will not only accelerate the process but will also make it more proficient and crystal clear.
The proposal will also benefit the students as the results will be declared on time. He also said that the exam branch have such a huge number of exam sheets, after handing over the work to departments, it will become easier for the branch to release their pressure.
It has also increased the quality of students taking admission in the DU program, who were selected on the basis of CAT score. The students who have been admitted in the MIB and MHROD programs of DU are all 95 percentile holders in CAT. The students joining these programs through CAT are more focused and motivated.
Furthermore, some of the students have work experience as well which will certainly enhance the DU's placement performance in subsequent years.
However, decentralization of whole exam process to ease the burden of the exam cell due to semester system has resulted in offering an added advantage to the postgraduate programs in acquiring quality students.
