IBA has helped me to become more confident: Santanu Sen
Since my childhood, I had an inclination towards science. I opted for science in +2. I was certain that engineering was my thing. I was interested in machines and gadgets and this compelled me to take up Mechanical Engineering as my career option. I had a great experience during my undergraduate days where I got to learn a lot about engineering and industry. On completion of my graduation, I joined B. Enterprise as a site mechanical engineer where I got exposure to the mechanisms in structural construction and operational activities in the petroleum industry. I got suggestions from my seniors and my parents that I should do PGDM, which would help me prosper in my professional career. I prepared for competitive exams like CAT and XAT. My scores werenβt satisfactory for the IIMs. I researched about colleges that would be suitable for me. I read highly about Indus Business Academy, Bangalore in various newspapers and magazines. It is ranked among the top 100 B-schools in India and is one of the most emerging colleges in the country. It has good placement records and the return of investment is mention-worthy. I gave interviews and thankfully, I got selected.
Post my CAT and XAT results, I was very unsure about which college to opt for. I went through many magazines, newspapers and searched the internet for a good college. I came across a lot of colleges like Indus Business Academy, TAPMI, XIME, Christ University, ISBR, IMI Kolkata, etc. I went through the details about the faculty and the course curriculum of the respective colleges, the college fees, and placement records of the previous batches. I did not take any coaching classes for the interviews. I went through some TIME and Career Launcher material and prepared for the interviews by myself. I applied for other colleges like Great Lakes Chennai, XIME, Christ University, IMI Kolkata and IBA Bangalore. My interviews went pretty well and I got calls from XIME Kochi, XIME Chennai, IMI Kolkata, and IBA. I had discussions with my seniors and B-school pass-outs about the selection of the college. I received good reviews about IBA regarding the faculty and administration, placement prospects, infrastructure, and other facilities. All these helped me to take a wise decision and that was IBA.
I have a very busy and engaging routine at IBA since the time I have been here. Our classes are from 9 am to 6 pm. I get breaks in between lectures and a lunch break that is quite helpful to maintain a flow in the study. As a person from the engineering background, I personally like attending Operations Management and Economics classes. I love attending management skills and emotional intelligence classes, which are unique and interesting. I also love attending marketing management, business economics, entrepreneurship, and business research methods classes because the faculty conducts interactive sessions that attract students to participate and apply their knowledge accordingly. I spend some hours at the gym and the sports playing table tennis, carrom and basketball. This provides me with a lot of refreshment at the end of the day.
IBA conducts many extra-curricular events, cultural events, educational forums and international conferences that are managed by the students. This is a unique aspect of the institution as it inculcates a sense of responsibility among the students and equally encourages them to apply their managerial skills. Since my arrival at IBA, I have been a part of numerous events such as Burning Bush, Yoga Day, alumni meet, education forum, etc. I have represented my college at fests organized by other B-schools along with my seniors. IBA celebrates cultural festivals for all communities such as Navratri, Onam, Durga Puja, Eid, and Guru Nanak Jayanti, Halloween, etc. that are managed by the YMCC committee, mentored by the CEO himself. I am getting to know more about other cultures and share common interests that have led to building a healthy relationship.
I am looking forward to participating and volunteering for the upcoming events such as TEDEx, Archish and other college fests where I would be able to show my mettle and make my college proud.
Life at IBA is definitely different from other B-schools. Although there is a lot of discipline and etiquettes that are expected from every student, it surely helps one to inculcate professional attitude and the ability to handle responsibilities. My life at IBA has been very memorable so far as I have become a much more confident individual than I was before. I hope that I will have more interesting experiences from IBA in the future.
