IIMs set to launch offbeat courses

In a bid to introduce real-life learning to the courses, IIMs are planning to introduce offbeat programs like Learnings from Sports, Three-Continent Master of Global Management, Certificate course on 'Barefoot Manager'. Such courses will give new opportunities to students and will help them develop a perspective.
These innovative programs and live interactions will help them understand the real world situations and adapt to challenging circumstances.

- Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore to introduce a new offbeat program ‘Learnings from Sports'
The purpose of offering this program is to give exposure to students towards innovative concepts altruistic mentoring, performance-based leadership, managing the ups and downs of the game, cross-training, and equipping them with skills beyond their role.
Classroom discussions, interactive sessions, panel discussions will also be part of this. It will be facilitated by industry experts and sports personalities from corporate India.
The idea of this program came from the two IIM-B alumni, who work for cricketer Anil Kumble owned sports company TENVIC. They have suggested using sports to hone leadership skills as one of their executive management programmes. It has already been implemented in US but it's a first of its kind in India.
In this program, participants will get guidance on leadership, how to manage multiple layers, deal with being the "captain" of a team or even "just an executive," and coping with new.

The objective of this program is to produce leaders who can handle the current market turbulence and dynamic corporate environment effectively. This program will focus on the leadership skills essential for senior management positions. The course pedagogy has been adapted from best practices from Asian countries. This program is a blend of basic management courses and specialised modules. Another aspect is the training under Mystique Management and Mind Mapping through outdoor learning camps.
This program will provide job opportunities in companies operating in emerging markets with main focus on India and China. Through this program, one can earn a salary between $36,000 and $1, 20,000 per annum.
This program will target professionals those have three years of working experience especially in the international market. To begin with this program, IIM Shillong has signed a MoU Ocean University of China, which involves a six-month stay and internship in China.

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar has launched a Three-Continent Master of Global Management program to create global managers.
The Euro 40,000 programme is a result of a partnership between XIM, Bhubaneswar, Antwerp Management School, Belgium and Fordham Graduate School of Business, New York. It has been structured to draw upon the strengths of each country. For India, it is bottom of-the-pyramid and social entrepreneurship; for New York, it is finance and innovation and for Antwerp, it is marketing in a multicultural society.
The program will target the fresh university graduates who have potential to work. The current batch consists of 16 students from Europe, two from the US, two from China, one from Indonesia, Turkey and India respectively. Student enrolled in this program can earn up to Rs 12 lakh at the initial stage and the compensation will be more in the other countries.
The idea of offering this program was born when the deans of these institutes met. They have discovered that a real global manager born when students immerse themselves in the local culture and business, and imbibe the experience of three continents. (Read more)

This program will target the micro entrepreneurs and panchayat officials. The video-based programme will impart management concepts to even illiterate people. This program encourages people to stay back in village. The estimated enrolment for 2012-13 is 1,500.
This program will evaluate business opportunities, consumer-oriented business philosophy, product design, distribution, promotion, pricing, accounting, sustainable consumption and production, ethics and society.
