10 reason why I joined EMPI: Arpita Karmakar

Selection of any course and college for planning a career is a very crucial decision of an individual. So was in my case too. After graduating in Commerce from Gauhati University, I was in a state of confusion - whether to go for MCom or PGDM as both are completely different fields. Initially, I thought that since I am have done BCom, so MCom would be a good option for me. But, then I gave a second thought and realised that MCom would provide me mostly the theoretical knowledge which companies, nowadays, don’t require from the candidates. What they require is the practical knowledge of various subjects which, according to me, only PGDM could provide. PGDM provides the requisite skills and practical industry exposure to students and makes them corporate-ready. So, I decided to do PGDM.

How I selected my college

The next question which struck me was - Which B-school to join? To get admission in a top B-schools, I had to first appear for the competitive entrance examinations like CAT/MAT/XAT as selection criteria of all top B-schools includes clearing these exams. To prepare for these exams, I joined IMS coaching institute in my home town Guwahati. I took the coaching for MAT exam. During that time of coaching, IMS provided me with a list of top B-schools in India. After a long consultation with my mentors, seniors and other relatives, I decided to apply in three B-schools among which was EMPI Business School, New Delhi. I had heard a lot about EMPI from one of my seniors who is an ex-student of this institution and I was quite sure of going there if I get selected.

I cleared my MAT with a good percentile and appeared for the GD-PIs of all the three B-schools which I kept as my preferences. I was selected in all the three b-schools. Before taking admission, I did a thorough research of all the three and found EMPI Business School, Delhi to be the best option because of the following reasons:

• It is a 22-year old institution providing quality education to the students.
• It is a fully residential campus providing 24*7 learning environment to the students.
• Since it is located in Satbari, Chattarpur, away from the hustle of the vehicles all the time, the campus has a green pollution-free environment.
• Since I have taken HR and Marketing as my specialisations, I opted for this college as it has collaboration with the famous Manpower group of HR and IBM.
• It also has a very good collaboration with Seneca College, Canada for students wanting to opt for Global Business.
• The B-school has excellent faculty, ready to help anytime to the students both in and out of the class.
• The students of this college have to undergo EFP (Executive Fitness Programme) every morning which other B-schools don’t provide. This is mainly done with the aim of making the students physically fit for handling the corporate pressures so that they can tackle any situation physically and, therefore, mentally too.
• EMPI conducts all types of cultural and academic activities like House-wise dance and singing competitions, debate and speech competitions, Ad-Mad shows, analytical skill and reasoning competitions and much more in order to shape up a student’s career in all aspects.
• It also organises all the festivals of India like Durga Puja, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Christmas, etc. so that all the students coming from different cultural backgrounds get a taste of each other’s culture.
• The B-school has excellent placement record since its inception.

I would like to conclude by saying that I am very much satisfied with my decision of joining EMPI and I feel proud to be a part of it.
