Mystory@Neeraj Singh Rathore: How I selected my course and college
I completed Class Xth with good marks in Math and theory subjects, but since I don’t have much interest in Science and cramming long formulas, I decided to opt for Commerce stream. My parents also supported my decision as they understood the scope Commerce provides its students for a good future.
Choosing the best college for post-graduation in MBA was a difficult task as every college was promoting itself as the best option. I decided to appear for MAT exam and scored very well, and got calls from many MBA colleges. I identified a few top colleges of Delhi and evaluated them on certain criteria including placement cell, faculty experience, infrastructure and fee structure. Finally, I decided to go for JIMS Rohini as I have done my graduation from JIMS only and I trust the institution.
How I cracked MBA admission
I decided not to join any coaching centre for my MBA preparation as I have little trust on these coaching centres. The reason being, my friends who have taken coaching could not score marks in entrance tests. So, I decided to study on my own as self-study is the best I feel. I prepared sincerely and scored well in the entrance exams I took.
I appeared for MAT, CET, Indraprastha University and Ambedkar University Exam. I was looking for admission in Ambedkar University as it is known to be a good college in Delhi for MBA. But due to less marks I couldn’t get into it.
For getting admission in JIMS for PGDM, I appeared for MAT exam, which was held in May 2016. I scored around 717 from 800, which fulfilled the criteria to get admission in JIMS. But just the exam score was not sufficient, I had to undergo a GD and a personal interview. It was a tough task as many students were in line to take admission but I did well and beat the competition to get into JIMS.
My college experience
I spend most of my time attending lectures from 9.30am to 5.00pm. I get less time for any other activity as all lectures are important and if I leave any one it would get difficult for me to get back on track. But if I get some time I like to go to the library and read books.
My major is Marketing and I like to attend its lectures the most. My favourites being consumer behaviour, business research, marketing management among others. Till now in my PGDM, I have taken part in many extra-curricular activities including poster making, debate competition, sports meet etc as these activities are necessary to help me build my confidence level. If I get a chance I like to get involved in some sports activities so that I feel relaxed and get some time off studies. We have table tennis, carom, gym etc in the basement of my college.
After joining JIMS I have felt many changes in me right from my communication skills to my learning habits, my interest in extra-curricular activities and more.
