Mystory@Tarun Hans: Hard work is the only key to success
I was a Science student and post schooling, I went on to do Engineering. Becoming an engineer was the aim I had since I was in class 5. Moreover, doing it from a premium Institute such as IIT/Delhi Technological University was the only aim. Not settling down for any other college was clearly the factor in my mind while taking coaching classes from various individual/correspondence/regular institutes. Coaching and learning from number of professors from various colleges really helped me in understanding of concepts. Once done with admission at Delhi College of Engineering, it turned out to be very tough - learning far more complex concepts and doing technical projects came into my way. While perusing the same, it was becoming clearer that to grow in life fast - MBA is important and that too from IIM/FMS. Again the focus shifted from learning Engineering to study for MBA. The same story of joining coaching institutes repeated- giving mock test series/ preparing for GD & interviews. My CAT exam didn't go good so had to settle down for a lower percentile and went to University Business School, Chandigarh to peruse Marketing & Finance MBA.
These were the best two years of my life. I worked extremely hard on learning & practicing the concepts. This was something that interested me a lot hence, studying MBA became easier and interesting. This helped me in cracking a job at Airtel.

I have been working at Airtel for 9 years now and the opportunity to work in different functions has helped me in learning more dimensions of business.
If I got a chance to relive the last 15 years of my life, then only change I would like to make is to skip Engineering & do graduation in Economics/ Accounting and then opt for MBA.
When you are young and aspiring to enter into Engg./Medical/other graduation courses, one must be fully aware of the graph of scope/opportunity one will get after completing that respective course. One must gather maximum available information of the same. Speak to friends/relatives/counselling experts to have awareness about the same. Had I had enough information, I might have not done Engineering at all, in spite of it being my ‘dream come true’ situation when I got into DTU.
Also, another aspect I want to lay stress is on the importance of hard work – the sooner one does in life, sooner one gets the taste of true success. This I realized when I was doing MBA and it became very clear that if I didn't work hard now, it will not get another chance to move to a good company.
The kind of hard work I did in my MBA, I fell had I done when was in class 11-12th, may be I would have made it to IIT, and had I worked hard for MBA during my engineering days, may be my percentile would have been better and I would have got into any of the IIM. But thankfully sense prevailed in MBA. This made me realize that hard work can’t be just a one-off, but is a continuous process of life. Even though I am now placed in Airtel, it’s important to work hard and enjoy the work all the time.
