Reforms in IIM Admission Procedure
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) is planning to change the pattern of the admission procedure. It's been years and classes at IIM have become static and monotonous. Most of the students are boys, and a speck of girls' students. In fact most of the students also have the same opinion about the speck of girls in the institute. In order to break this monotony, the management schools have decided to award special marks to girls and non-engineering students. IIM Lucknow and Kozhikode and all the six new IIMs have felt the need of this reform in the admission procedure to rebalance the gender ratio.
Particulars of additional marks to be awarded by IIMs are as follows:
- IIM Rohtak will give 20 marks to each girl and another 20 to a non-engineer.
- IIM Raipur will add 30 marks to the overall score of each girl-non-engineer
- IIM Lucknow will grant five marks extra to each girl and two to non-engineers
- Extra marks apart from CAT scores, class X and graduation scores, and work experience
IIM-Lucknow admissions chairman Arunabha Mukhopadhyay said that, it is the first time when we have taken some steps towards the diversity in campus. B.S. Sahay, IIM-Raipur director, said that all the six new IIMs took the call to make some reforms in the admission procedure and benefit the girls and non-engineers students. This admission criterion has been released by seven IIMs months back before the Common Admission Test.
โNew IIMs have decided to eradicate Group Discussions'
The new IIMs have decided to eradicate Group Discussions from the admission procedure and they have jointly decided upon a Written Ability test (WAT). The basic aim of carrying out a Group discussion is to check the abilities of a student i.e. on the basis of their communication skills, their convincing dexterity, their leadership abilities and their teamwork. But then many students have a nightmare about group discussions and students who can't raise their voices and won't participate actively just go unheard.
The older management schools like IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, and Indore will continue with the previous procedure, and expect students to clear the written examination as well as conduct GDs and personal interviews.
