Why do Indian students fly abroad for higher studies?
Have you ever thought why students from India, wish to pursue their higher studies abroad? Spending almost thrice the amount only for accommodation and costlier education, staying away from family and home! Is it only about having fun or seeking an element of change abroad? We know it's much more than just that.
The overall standard of Indian education doesn't seem to have improved much over the years to compare with the educational facilities offered in developed countries. The practical application of theoretical concepts is still lacking in a large segment of Indian classrooms. Students are spoon-fed and have to put up with rote learning as the educational system largely continues to follow the conventional school teaching methods. Lecturers fail to make the classes interesting, which can be brought alive through adopting an interactive approach and use of modern technology.
As the conventional teaching system continues in many schools and colleges, students don't enjoy the privilege or the freedom to experiment. Their problems go
unheard and the hectic and uninteresting classroom pressurises the students leading to loss of interest in studies and a poor academic performance if not complete failure. There's a huge dearth of talent in the teaching staff in schools as well as colleges. Besides fresh graduates who may be preparing for competitive exams or higher studies, and many housewives also tend to take up teaching jobs to keep themselves employed and busy. The full day schedule and the tough rules (attendance must in all class, punctuality etc) makes balancing dual roles in life difficult.
On the contrary, students abroad have more flexibility to choose their classes as they want, which helps them earn through part-time jobs. They are exposed to different age groups of students (working, fresher, married, single) in class, allowing them to concentrate in other part of their lives as well. Thus, the Indian students who join universities abroad get the opportunity to study and fund their own education and other expenses, which they may find difficult to do in our country and hence depend financially on their parents.
The other important factor to be considered is technology. Except for few of the leading institutes like the IIMs, ISB, XLRI, Symbiosis, etc the other colleges lack in providing the needed infrastructure and quality of learning.

Today, most of the students prefer to go abroad for higher studies because there they hope to get better exposure, modern facilities, world-class faculties and good infrastructure which is not sufficiently available in India.
Our government should check why so many students still prefer to fly abroad. Our educational institutes must look to improve themselves to be able to attract the talented youth of our country and nurture the minds of students to help them build a bright future for themselves and the country.
