Exam Analysis – ‘What Students Have to Say’
“There were three sections and all of them were a little difficult. Quant had about 31 questions. The difficultly level was as expected. Verbal section was not as difficult as previous years. DM had lesser questions. For me, DM is an area where I can score well. But since questions were less, I don’t know how well I will score in this paper,” says Mansi, a test taker.
For Akshaydeep Pathania, XAT 2014 was a good experience. “Math and Reasoning were okay. English was pretty lengthy. GK was lengthy but normal,” he says. He also took CAT 2013 and felt both the exams were quite similar.
“VA and RC were moderate. Quant and Decision-making was difficult for me. Rest were doable. GK was based on current affairs and was easy for me,” says Atreya Ghos, a recent BBA pass out.
For some students, the exam was a hard nut to crack. “Paper was very difficult. The best part was essay,” says Ayush Agarwal. Reiterating similar views, three friends and working professionals – Kunwardeep, Aditya and Sanchit – said this was the worst exam of their life. They went on to jokingly say that it was more difficult than IIT-JEE. “It was very lengthy and we are expecting nothing out of it. I didn’t even attempt all the GK questions,” says Sanchit. Kunwardeep quickly chipped in saying, “I attempted many GK questions and I know none of them are correct!”
Mukesh Mishra, a 37-year-old senior executive working with Indian Oil, appeared for the paper after 14 years. “Overall the paper went well. Since I also took GMAT, I felt English was easy. Critical reasoning was manageable, but Quant was slightly difficult. I had prepared for basic level math and have not been in touch with the Quant basics of this type of tests.” Mukesh also appeared for CAT 2013 and hopes to explore better professional profiles with XAT.
