Gujarat Board Exam 2025: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) has announced an update to the exam patterns for Class 9 and Class 11 students, effective for the 2024-2025 academic year. The revised exam format, which mirrors the GSEB Class 10, 12 board exam schedule 2025, is designed to ensure consistency across different grade levels and provide students with a smoother transition to the board exams.
GSEB Paper Structure Revised: 70% Descriptive and 30% Objective
The new exam format will consist of 70% descriptive questions and 30% objective questions. This revision increases the proportion of objective questions from 20% to 30%, while reducing the weightage of the descriptive section to 70%. Previously, students had the option to choose between two questions; however, the revised structure will offer five options, from which students can attempt any two or three.
This shift in question structure aims to standardize the exam formats across all levels, facilitating a smoother experience for students as they move from Class 9 and 11 to the more rigorous GSEB Class 10, 12 exams 2025.
Impact on Nearly 15 Lakh Students
The revised exam pattern will be implemented starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, impacting approximately 15 lakh students, according to a statement from the GSEB. The board believes that the new format will reduce failure rates by making the exams more accessible and aligned with the future board exam structure, offering students a more familiar and less intimidating format as they progress.
Streamlined Structure Across All Streams
The new pattern will be applied across all academic streams, including science, commerce, and general education. For Class 11 students, the syllabus and sample question papers for core subjects—such as Gujarati, Hindi, English, Sanskrit, economics, statistics, business administration, psychology, sociology, history, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology—have already been updated to reflect the new exam structure.
Exemptions for Certain Subjects in Class 9 and Class 11
While the majority of subjects will adhere to the new exam pattern, some subjects will retain their existing formats. For Class 9, subjects including computer studies, music, yoga, health and physical education, agriculture, animal husbandry and dairy science, and home science will continue with the current exam format.
Similarly, for Class 11, subjects such as computer studies, music, yoga, and health and physical education will not follow the revised exam pattern and will maintain their previous formats.
The GSEB’s revision of the Class 9 and Class 11 exam patterns marks an important step towards aligning all exam structures with those of the board exams. By making the exam formats more consistent and approachable, the board aims to reduce student stress and ensure a seamless transition for those advancing to Class 10 and 12. As the 2024-2025 academic year begins, students and educators will need to adapt to the new structure, which promises to bring greater clarity and fairness to the examination process.
