Himachal Pradesh Board has decided to reduce the syllabus by 30 per cent for Classes 9 to 12. The decision will also impact the HPBOSE 10th and 12th Exams 2021.

The Himachal Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has announced that it has decided to reduce the syllabus for Classes 9 to 12 by 30 per cent. The decision was taken by a five-member high-level committee. The decision to reduce the syllabus was taken considering the ongoing coronavirus situation in the country due to which the number of working days of school are expected to be low for this academic year. Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cut down 30 per cent of the syllabus as one-time measure for the year 2020-21 for classes 9 to 12, considering the reduction in classroom teaching time due to coronavirus outbreak that led to the closure of schools.

The HPBOSE committee held a workshop with subject experts, who suggested which topics to be eliminated from Hindi, Political Science, History, Geography, and Psychology subjects. Suresh Kumar Soni, chairperson, HPBOSE in an official statement informed the decision is being taken because the number of instructional hours has been reduced due to the pandemic. While the syllabus cut will help candidates to study less for exams, the board is attempting to ensure this does not curtail the knowledge of a candidate.
