The School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad also stated that the reopening of schools in the state would take place after getting a green signal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus adversely affected the academic year, and six months into the lockdown, the central and state government are still exploring ways to curb academic losses and continue the teaching and learning process amid the ongoing pandemic situation. Talking about the problems that have arisen due to disparity in reaching education to all students, the School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad stated that the reopening of the schools in the state would take place after getting a green signal from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The state plans to begin sessions for Class 10 and 12, followed by Class 9. The minister further stated, “Our plan is to operate schools for about 2-3 hours to focus on Math, Science and other core subjects, while the rest of the subjects can be taught through online lessons or reading assignments.”
Talking about the effect of delayed academic session on Maharashtra SSC Board Exams 2021 and Maharashtra HSC Board Exams 2021, the minister said, “So far, we have not taken a decision on postponing the board exams. But based on the current scenario, it seems highly likely that the board exams will need to be postponed.” Ms Gaikwad further stated that the state government reduced 25 per cent of the syllabus for Mah SSC and Mah HSC board exams 2021, so the question papers will be needed to be set accordingly.
She further added that the preparation for the exams requires time. “Nearly a month and half is required for printing and distribution of question papers alone.”
The education minister also talked about conducting supplementary exams. “We are still mulling over conducting exams for failed board students in October end. For classes 9 and 11, we have instructed institutions to conduct evaluation through viva or video-conferencing,” the minister said.
