MSBSHSE has decided to cancel the Mah SSC exams 2021 amid rise in COVID19 cases in the state. Results will be calculated on the basis of internal assessments.

Amid rising coronavirus cases in the state, Maharashtra government has decided to cancel the Mah SSC Exams 2021. All Class 10th students will be promoted to Class 11 without exams. However, the decision of whether to conduct an assessment will be taken by the school department. The decision came after CBSE and other state boards cancelled Class 10th exams.

However, no change has been made for Mah HSC exams which will be conducted after the pandemic situation improves.

"Given the worsening situation of the Covid19 pandemic, the Maharashtra government has now decided to cancel the state board exams for class 10th. Health and safety of students and teachers is our topmost priority,” said Varsha Gaikwad, state school education minister.

Speaking on the process of calculation of result, she added, “We will work out a process to mark students based on internal assessments and announce it soon. We will also consider giving students a chance to appear for the exam if they wish to. Details for the same will be discussed and worked out with experts."

While parents and teachers expressed joy in the news, educationists are pointing out a grim reality that the marks based on internal assessment may not be possible in many cases because there are students who have neither attended online classes nor enough offline classes. Moreover, none of the baseline tests or cumulative assessments was held this year for the students. This further raises questions about the fairness of the internal marking system. The class 10th marks are important as many students, from rural areas, migrate to cities for their junior college admissions, where cut-off marks in renowned colleges are high.
