Give question bank to students taking board exams, directs Parliamentary panel
A parliamentary panel suggested the Education Ministry provide a โbig question bankโ to students of classes 10 and 12 in advance, of which selected questions will be asked in the board exams. This move aims at mitigating the learning gap of students in wake of COVID19.
Speaking on the impact of COVID19 on school education, government officials suggested that there could be a substantial โlearning gapโ in this academic year 2020-21 due to the pandemic. Also, a sizeable number of students have missed virtual classes due to internet connectivity issues. Many students of poor families did not attend the online classes as they could not afford mobile phones or laptops.
Underlining that Doordarshan and AIR are more cost-effective than the Internet, panel chairman Sahasrabuddhe said both mediums have a wider reach across the country, and that the ministry should have promoted, through advertisements and other mediums, classes for various subjects through these mediums.
The question bank should cover the entire syllabus and should have questions that evaluate both the analytical and logical abilities of the students, sources said. Giving it to students in advance would solve the exam management-related issues and ease anxiety and fear among students.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had announced earlier that board exams for CBSE 2021 class 10th and 12th will be held from May 4 to June 10. The CBSE datesheet 201 is expected to be announced this week.
