IIMs will pave the way for an “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”: PM Narendra Modi
The Prime Minister also spoke on the growing start-up culture in the country and how graduates from management institutes can help take them to new heights.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Sambalpur in Odisha. IIM Sambalpur is one of the seven third-generation IIMs promised by the central government in 2015. Prime Minister lauded the role of innovation, integrity, and inclusion in the field of management, terming them as key mantras during the foundation stone laying ceremony.
“The permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur will give a new identity to Odisha in the field of management,” the Prime Minister said in a virtual address, adding that the IIMs will pave the way for an “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”.
The Prime Minister also spoke on the growing start-up culture in the country and how graduates from management institutes can help take them to new heights.
"Today’s startups can become tomorrow’s multi-nationals. These start-ups are mostly starting in Tier-II and Tier-III cities in the country. The youth of India needs to be prepared for the massive opportunities that lie ahead in India. In this new decade, we’re responsible to give a new image to brand India globally," he said.
With the concept of work from anywhere, the whole world has changed from a global village to a global workplace. India too has swiftly done all the necessary reforms in the last few months, he added.
Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, along with Union Ministers Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Chandra Sarangi were also present on the occasion, Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement.
According to the statement, IIM Sambalpur is the first IIM to implement the idea of the flipped classroom where the basic concepts are learnt in digital mode and experiential learning takes place in the class, through live projects from the industry.
The Institute also outscored all other IIMs in terms of the highest gender diversity with 49 per cent girl students in MBA (2019-21) batch and 43 per cent in MBA (2020-22) batch, the statement said.
