With this, SPJIMR also became the first management institute in the country to complete the process in the midst of a pandemic.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) today, i.e. announced that it successfully completed the autumn placements for its two-year full-time PGDM programme’s Class of 2021. With this, SPJIMR also became the first management institute in the country to complete the process in the midst of a pandemic. SPJIMR conducted the campus recruitment virtually due to the COVID-19 outbreak followed by the nationwide lockdown and continuously increasing positive coronavirus cases. The SPJIMR autumns internship process witnessed the participation from 88 recruiters, who cumulatively rolled out more than 268 offers for 236 participants from the PGDM Class of 2021 across industries like BFSI, e-commerce, FMCGs, pharmaceuticals and consulting.
The key highlight of the season was the pioneering virtual recruitment process that was handled across a combination of platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Cisco WebEx and Amazon Chime. Real-world systems and processes like group discussions and interview panels were replicated virtually through unique features across the different platforms.
SPJIMR’s batch of 236 students also became the first to complete the specialisation semester of the PGDM Year 2 online, helping the students acquaint with the features of the various online platforms. In order to facilitate the ease of transition to the new recruitment model, the Institute and student bodies arranged various faculty sessions, mock group discussions and interviews. The season saw 61 new recruiters, which included big names of the industry such as Allianz Investment Management, Invesco Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential AMC and Prione.
Dr. Sajeev Abraham George, PGDM Programme Chair, said, “Although the Institute left no stone unturned to provide our students with the best experience in the virtual classroom, we believe that it was the wholehearted efforts of our students and the cooperation of their families that helped us achieve this feat.”
SPJIMR Dean and Professor of Marketing Dr. Ranjan Banerjee said, “This is a commendable performance in a difficult year. It is a result of close collaboration across the placement team, faculty, alumni and corporate partners.”
While the country is pacing pay cuts, job loss, mass firing and more, SPJIMR placement results brought positivity amid these dark times of a dramatic shift in economic conditions with the outlook of a slower or even negative growth that has put several sectors under pressure and forced businesses to realign operations and shift strategies.
Following previous years’ trend, FMCG and e-commerce again came out to be the most dominant sectors in terms of the number of hires with 33 per cent and 15 per cent of the participants placed in these sectors respectively. According to the date released by the institute, More than 60 per cent of the batch received offers of INR 200,000 and above. The median compensation for offers with stipends for the two-month internship clocked in at a remarkable Rs 240,000 with the average stipend rising above INR 201,000. SPJIMR’s innovative autumn placements process enables participants to take up an internship after completing a rural internship and specialisation courses.
