AMU has announced that the campus will remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays until August 31.

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has announced that the varsity will remain closed on all the Saturdays and Sundays until August 31. The university has decided to keep the campus closed considering the ongoing coronavirus condition in the state. The move comes after the latest advisory issued by the Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Government regarding preventive measures to be taken to avoid further spread of COVID-19.

However, the administrative and other university functions including medical services, sanitation, electricity, water supply, residential hall services, central automobile workshop, telephone department, central administrative offices, proctor’s office, computer centre and gas agency will continue to operate during this period as per the direction of the heads of the concerned department or office, AMU said in a statement. The announcement regarding the same was made by the varsity on its official twitter handle. Check the tweet below:

The university in a social media post said: “AMU campus will remain closed Saturday & Sunday in August,2020, in connection with the prevention of prevailing conditions of COVID 19 in UP.” Moreover, as per the Ministry of Home Affairs Unlock 3 guidelines, schools, colleges and coaching institutes will continue to remain closed till August 31.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the AMU has been kept closed since mid-March as a preventive measure. AMU has earlier announced that it will be conducting the final examinations for the remaining 30 per cent marks for all the Undergraduate and Postgraduate students from August 5. The University said that it will be conducting the examination online in viva voce formats to maintain social distancing norms as directed by the Health Ministry.
