Anna University, Chennai decided to conduct proctored online examination for the final-semester undergraduate and postgraduate students of the university departments and affiliated colleges by the end of August. In order to conduct online exams on its behalf, Anna University published a tender inviting bid and estimated the exams to cost Rs 1,86,00,000 for 15 days of work. The two-bid system is adopted by the University in which the technical and financial proposals will be submitted separately, for the following services for the Controller of Examinations, Anna University.

According to a reputed media source, the University will conduct a one-hour proctored online examination for each subject. During these online exams, in order to eliminate malpractices, the University will use artificial intelligence to monitor students. To avoid malpractice, audio and physical movements of the students will be recorded along with computer screen usage.

Tamil Nadu cancelled all exams until the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued guidelines on July 6 making it compulsory for universities to conduct exams for final-semester or final-year students. Universities and colleges are shut since the month of March due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus followed by the nationwide lockdown imposed on March 24, in order to contain the virus. While the country is under partial lockdown and is following all the precautionary to fight against the deadly virus, the positive cases are still increasing. As the academic institutions are shut, authorities are exploring different ways to continue the teaching-learning process online.
