DUTA holds protest to demand absorption of Delhi University ad-hoc teachers

Thousand of teachers staged a protest to demand absorption of ad-hoc or temporary teachers through one-time regulation, the DUTA claimed. The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA)  said the march was taken out from the SGTB Khalsa College to VC Office, Chhatra Marg via Miranda House among other places.

The march was conducted after the Annual General Body meeting (GBM) during which DUTA President AK Bhagi spoke to the members about the first year of his tenure. DUTA President also informed the gathering about the demands raised with the DU administration, Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding 25 per cent EWS expansion seats and fund crisis in 12 colleges of DU fully funded by the Delhi Government.

"After the DUTA GBM, thousands of teachers participated in the march. Protesting teachers raised slogans for the absorption of ad-hoc/temporary teachers through one-time regulation," its statement read. They also raised slogans against the Delhi government for the fund cut and irregular grants to 12 DU colleges fully funded by it.

Meanwhile, Delhi University has announced that it will begin a paid internship scheme from this academic year; i.e. 2022-23, for students for undergraduate and postgraduate students in a bid to impart holistic education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. "The objective of the Vice-Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) is to impart training on soft and hard skills by integrating cognitive knowledge with experiential learning," Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said.

"All students pursuing full-time regular courses from Delhi University at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels will be eligible to apply for VCIS. The internship will be available throughout the year based on the requirements of the departments, centres and institutes of the Delhi University," as per the official document.
