Banaras Hindu University today clarified that the BHU reopening notice circulated on social media is fake. The notice says that the University is going to reopen in a phased manner in terms of the UGC guidelines in this regard from November 11, 2021.

The notice further stated that " In the first phase the University was reopened for final year students of all courses. Now in this phase, University will allow second-year students. Core Committees are being constituted for the implementation and monitoring of guidelines/SoPs. These committees will assess the situation periodically. Keeping in view the situation further re-opening for first-year students will be decided."

"Each faculty/institute will constitute a core committee for developing an SoP to be followed during the reopening of the University and for its effective implementation and monitoring. The SoP shall be based on the MoHFW/MHA/ME/State government's guidelines on safety measures for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19," it added.

The University also urged the students to not believe in such rumors and wait for the official announcements.

Earlier, BHU had resumed classes in hybrid mode for the students of final year and final semesters from September 1. The classes in hybrid mode -- a mix of both online and offline -- are been conducted for both undergraduate and postgraduate final-year students. The University had also allowed the final year students to stay in single-occupancy hostel rooms so that Covid protocols are maintained and the spread of coronavirus is minimum. Use of face masks, sanitisers, frequent handwashing and respiratory etiquette has been made mandatory for students, teachers and non-teaching staff, to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
