Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has decided to start a three-month short-term course in Communicative Chinese from this academic session. The university started this course to enhance the language skills of students and make a reach to as many learners possible. For admission to the course, the aspiring students can apply from January 15 to 25. The counseling will take place on January 27 at 10 am in the department. The classes for the course would commence from January 30.
A tutor has been employed to teach the language. As per the response, they will start a six-month and one-year certificate course in Chinese soon. As of now, the department provides courses in French, German and Persian languages.
With foreign languages in the resume giving the desired push during any job interview, language proficiency has become a necessary skill for employment today.
On the occasion of the national workshop on digital learning tools for faculty, Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor of GNDU had underlined many reasons for the rising demand of Mandarin and Japanese languages across the nation. He had accredited the growing popularity of the two languages to globalisation and enhanced economic ties of the two countries with India.
Free-of-cost course in Urdu
Apart from this, the district administration has been providing a free-of-cost course in Urdu at the district office of the Department of Languages at Sant Singh Sukha Singh School Chowk. The native language classes have been taking place since 2017. The Urdu language course is limited to literature students and those learning the language for competitive exams.
