IIT Bombay conducts annual CSR Conclave 'Tech for Sustainable Development' 2022

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay held its annual corporate social responsibility conclave tech for sustainable development at Victor Menezes Convention Centre at the IIT Bombay campus. IIT Bombay has claimed that many big corporate from the country attended the CSR conclave. During the event, IIT Bombay demonstrated its research works that can be supported through CSR.

The IIT Bombay CSR conclave was based on research areas focused by the institute to develop solutions for national and global challenges. The research areas include education, healthcare, rural development and agriculture, sustainability, skills and entrepreneurship, women empowerment, social and policy development. Ravindra D. Gudi, dean (alumni and corporate relations) hosted a presentation in this regard. The conclave helped corporate leadership in identifying areas where they can collaborate with the institute. 

The institute also showcased its pioneering projects through kiosks. IIT Bombay faculty members and students involved in these projects interacted with the attendees and explained their current research pursuits and future goals. The conclave also hosted presentations by IIT Bombay faculty members on various themes such as rural development through technology solutions, India’s transition to electric mobility and sustainability aspects in chemical and pharma manufacturing. Panel discussions with industry experts and faculty members were also held during the conclave on climate change mitigation through technology and innovations, clean energy solutions, healthcare and biosciences, circular economy, and technology entrepreneurship.

The chief guest of the event was Amarjeet Sinha, former advisor in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), who is a retired IAS officer. “The biggest challenge we face with regards to sustainable development is both in technology development for, and the presence of competent professionals in rural areas, as well as a strong community connect. Technological innovations can play a critical role in improving the lives and livelihoods of deprived households and moving them up the skilling ladder. The coming together of ‘Tech for Sustainable Development’ and Institutions like IIT Bombay, whose ideas and innovations can be transformative for the livelihoods of people, provide an opportunity for the same,” Sinha said.
