Students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) have started online protests demanding cancellation and promotion without exams. This comes after the varsity decided to conduct the previous semester exams. Students of various institutes affiliated to the JNTU have also boycotted online classes to protest. Many students allege that the university is conducting exams despite UGC’s guidelines to promote the students on the basis of their internal marks for all inter-semester students.

The University on the other hand has asked the B.Tech, B.Pharm, and PharmD students of the affiliated institutes to write the exams months after the semester has ended and students have been promoted by the university. The said exams are set to begin from the second week of October, the notice states.

Most of the JNTUH affiliated institutes are already boycotting online classes from September 25 in a protest against the university. Several students are also not attending classes and some private institutes are recording zero attendance. “We are studying for the fourth semester since July. How can we write the exam on the third semester in October?” asked a student from MGIT college told a media house.

JNTU Hyderabad, Vice-Chancellor, Jayesh Ranjan while speaking to a media house said, “We are following All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) directions to conduct pending semester exams. We decided to conduct the exams in October. Even earlier, we have said that ‘the decision of postponement of the exam can be changed if the situation becomes favourable. We have already conducted the end semester exams for final year students successfully. After careful consideration, we have finally decided to conduct exams for all students, so there is no going back.”
