JNU to set up Sardar Vallabhai Patel Centre of India's Partition Studies

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced that it has decided to set up the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Centre for India's Partition Studies. The announcement was made by JNU on the occasion of the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day 2022. This centre, when approved, will be set up under the JNU's School of International Studies.

JNU will be working towards the creation of this India's Partition Studies centre and the once the process is done, the varsity will approach the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministry of Education for approval.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed on August 14 in India. The day is observed to commemorate the victims during the Partition of India in 1947 and the sufferings witnessed by people. Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021 and has been observed ever since. School of International Studies at JNU organisied a panel discussion on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day 2022. During her keynote address, JNU VC announced the creation of the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Centre of India's partition studies.

The varsity will share more details regarding the centre of Partition Studies soon. Classes under this would begin once the launch has been approved by UGC India and the Education Ministry.
