PAU Exams 2022: University refuses to accept students' demand to not hold offline exam

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has refused to accede to the students' demand to not conduct offline exams. The delegation of students of PAU and University administration met to discuss the offline examination. The move to take offline exams has triggered massive protests for nearly a week. Officials said exams will only be taken offline or through a third party.

Students said that the classes were conducted in online mode due to the pandemic by the University for the last two years and the examinations were also conducted in the same manner.  The students said the move to conduct the offline exams will result in the wastage of time as many students who are living in other districts or far-flung areas will have to commute all the way to appear for the exams.

“Hostel has been kept closed for nearly two years now and the facilities like hot water and food are also missing. We should shift to hostel or study, we don't know just before the exam," the protesting student said.

Punjab Agricultural University students had staged a protest outside Thapar Hall of University demanding online exams. Students thronged to Thapar Hall, the university’s administrative block, at 10 am to mark their protest. The protesting students said that they are against the University's decision to hold exams offline as they studied the entire semester in online mode, hence, the exams should be held in online mode.

Angrej Singh Mann, a final year BSc agriculture student, who was leading the protest said classes were shunned earlier as teachers were staging protests against the state government before online classes were announced.
