Pondicherry University to conduct end semester exams in open book mode

The official release also clarified that all the other conditions such as the duration of the examination, the pattern of question papers remain the same. Students need to answer in A4 white sheets in black ink.

Pondicherry University Final Year Exams 2020: Pondicherry University announced on September 18, 2020, that end semester examinations for students of affiliated colleges will be conducted under open book mode considering the ongoing pandemic situation. An official press release published by the Pondicherry University Controller of Examinations states, “To ensure fair and equal opportunity for students appearing through online, offline or blended mode it is decided to conduct end semester (final semester) exams for students under the open book exam mode as per guidelines of the UGC on examinations and Academic Calendar issued in April last."

The release added that students are allowed to refer to books, notes, and other study materials to answer questions. Answers presented during exams must reflect the understanding of the concept and not verbatim copying from sources. The university also stated that the Chief Superintendents were expected to ensure that the relevant materials were not exchanged between students to avoid COVID infection. Scanned papers are to be sent to the respective colleges within 30 minutes after the scheduled time of the examinations. The end semester examinations is all set to begin tomorrow, i.e. on September 21.

The academic institutions across the country are closed since the month of March due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus followed by the nationwide lockdown imposed in order to contain the virus. Alternatives are being adopted by schools and universities to curb the academic losses.
