SPPU postpones final year exams due to heavy rainfall warnings in the region.

The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has postponed all the online and offline exams that were scheduled to hold today; i.e. October 15, owing to a heavy rainfall alert in the region. The SPPU began the final year exams from October 12, 2020, across various centers. The revised schedule for the postponed exam, however, would be announced later.

As per the statement released by SPPU, "Final year exams scheduled for today have been postponed in view of heavy rain and alert issued by IMD for Pune and adjoining districts. The exams were being conducted online for final year students by Savitribai Phule Pune University while those who could not attend it online were provided offline option as well. Hence both the exams scheduled for today have been postponed, the revised schedule to be declared later.”

Various parts of Maharashtra are on high alert today following excessive rains due to which traffic movement has been halted at Sinhagad Road due to waterlogging. The alert for weather has been generated as a flood-like situation has occurred in the Baramati river following a rise in water level. The National Disaster Relief Force, NDRF has deployed two teams in Maharashtra -- one each in Latur and Solapur for rescue operations.

Authorities have been trying to reach 9,000 students out of the 2.5 lakh students registered in the final year exams who have not finalised their exam centres but in vain. While SPPU began the final year exams, the backlog papers have been reportedly shifted to October 17, 2020.
