UGC has launched Phase-II of Technical Textiles Internship with stipends up to ₹20,000. NIFT announces fellowships for Ph.D. scholars and scholarships for weavers’ children.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced Phase-II of the Technical Textiles Internship Programme under GIST 2.0, offering B.Tech and UG students a monthly stipend of up to ₹20,000 for industry-based projects in engineering, agriculture, medicine, fashion, and IT.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has also opened applications for fellowships for full-time Ph.D. scholars and scholarships for children of handloom weavers pursuing diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate courses.
According to the UGC notification, the internship aims to create skilled manpower in the fast-growing technical textiles sector, bridging the gap between academia and industry. Selected students will work on live projects with industry partners, gaining exposure to innovative applications of textiles in fields like defence, infrastructure, and healthcare.
NIFT’s fellowship programme will support doctoral research in textile and fashion-related domains, with an emphasis on industry collaboration and innovation. Additionally, the scholarship scheme for weavers’ children is designed to promote equitable access to higher education and skill development, particularly in regions with strong handloom traditions.

Cut-off for NID 2026 Entrance exam will be prepared based on factors like total number of applications, seat intake for the applied programme, category under which admission is sought, and merit rank of the applicant in NID DAT 2026. Each of these factors are variables. For example, number of applications may vary from one category to another. Cut-off would also vary. The cut-off represents the minimum marks a candidate needs to secure in his or her category to get admission to the B. Des or M.Des programme.
The UGC has invited eligible students and institutions to apply through the official portal, while NIFT has shared fellowship and scholarship details on its website.
