University of Kashmir introduces NCC as general elective course; check details here
Under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, the course will be General Elective Credit Course under the Choice Based Credit System.
The University of Kashmir has introduced the National Cadet Corps for the very first time as a General Elective Course in 24 colleges affiliated with it. The introduction of the NCC is a major development to counter Pakistan propaganda that tries to lure educated youth to terrorism.
Under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, the course will be General Elective Credit Course under the Choice Based Credit System.
Dr. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir said that this will benefit students not only for higher education but for jobs anywhere in India while adding that NCC & NSS are training programs that bring discipline among youths.
"Kashmir is part of the nation, Kashmiri youth should go to services not only the army but civil services as well. We are training students for national and union territory level, This NCC course will help them get into forces be it the Indian army, Navy or Airforce," Vice-Chancellor said.
Talat said that this will increase the participation of Kashmiri Muslims at the national level.
"Kashmir has a huge Muslim population and we need more participation of Muslims at the national level. Definitely, Kashmiri youth will do a lot for the country," he said adding that this will turn into a big responsible force of citizens who will very useful.
Indian army in a statement termed the move as a path-breaking event which was achieved by joint efforts of the university and Indian army. "This notification is great news for 1860 NCC Cadets of 24 Colleges under the University of Kashmir who apart from Nation-building will also be benefitted with NCC as an Elective Course. In the future, it will also greatly impact students of various colleges under the University of Kashmir who opt for NCC," Army said.
