COVID-19: IP University employees donate Rs 11 lakh for PM Cares Fund
The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has collected Rs 11 lakh for Prime Minister's Relief Fund through employees contributing their one-day salary.
The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has announced that it has collected Rs 11 lakh as a contribution to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. The employees of GGSIPU have contributed their one-day salary for this fund to help the government in its fight against COVID-19.
The University official said in a statement that during this critical time when the whole country is suffering due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has decided to donate one day salary of all employees of the University to the PM Cares Fund. The amount has been contributed by the employees from their March month salary.
"This is one such situation when the whole nation should unite together and help the government in every possible way to fight this deadly virus. With this aim, all our employees at the university have come forward voluntarily and donated as a goodwill gesture," he said.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced setting up of the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES). This fund has been set up with an aim to fight the current and any emergency situation arising in the future. The fund will be headed by Prime Minister and its members will be Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
The government had earlier said in a statement that the spread of novel coronavirus is posing a serious threat to health and economic ramifications for our country. To help the government during this emergency, the Prime Minister's office is spontaneously receiving innumerable requests for making generous donations.
