IIT Kanpur Launches Bachelor of Cyber Programme

IIT Kanpur B.Cyber Programme: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has announced new undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Cybersecurity (B.Cyber). Unlike most IIT undergraduate courses, admission to B.Cyber programme will not be based on JEE Advanced scores. Candidates will first be shortlisted based on their JEE Main performance and prior work or interest in cybersecurity

All those shortlisted will then undergo an on-campus assessment, including hackathon, at IIT Kanpur. This programme will train students in protecting digital systems and tackling cyber threats through a blend of academic learning and practical experience.

Candidates enrolled in this programme will spend first two years on campus, studying cybersecurity concepts through classroom teaching and laboratory training. Two more years will be for internships with government security organisations.

The programme will be offered by the Wadhwani School of AI and Intelligent Systems at IIT Kanpur. Dean of the school, Prof. Nitin Saxena, said this new course has been designed to combine strong academic foundations with real-world exposure to prepare highly skilled cybersecurity professionals.

Speaking about the programme, IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agrawal highlighted growing importance of cybersecurity in today's digital world. He said that future conflicts will not only take place on physical battlefields but also in cyberspace.
