The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Indian Army to launch an M.Tech programme in Defence Technology. The programme is being introduced in collaboration with the Armoured Corps Centre & School (ACC&S) and will be offered exclusively to serving Army officers.

With this initiative, IIT Ropar becomes the first Indian Institute of Technology to start a specialised M.Tech programme in defence technology in partnership with the armed forces.

Programme Structure and Focus

The M.Tech (Defence Technology) programme has been jointly designed by IIT Ropar and ACC&S. The curriculum focuses on applied engineering, defence systems, and technology-driven problem-solving relevant to armoured formations and military operations.

The programme aims to strengthen officers’ technical understanding and research capabilities in areas directly linked to defence applications. On completion, participants will receive an M.Tech degree from IIT Ropar.

Research Collaboration Between IIT Ropar and Indian Army

Apart from the academic programme, the MoA provides a framework for joint research and development activities between IIT Ropar and the Indian Army. These collaborations will focus on defence-related technologies, including armoured fighting vehicle systems, advanced armaments, materials engineering, and emerging technologies relevant to military platforms.

The partnership is expected to support technology development and indigenisation efforts in the defence sector.
