The facility provides prototyping tools for entrepreneurs at the basic level. Startups across the country can use the facility for mechanical, biotechnological and electronic prototyping.

After completing its 15 years, the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) has announced that any startup across the country can have access to its integrated prototype laboratory.

According to Chief Executive Officer of SINE, Poyni Bhatt, the facility provides prototyping tools for entrepreneurs at the basic level. Startups across the country can use the facility for mechanical, biotechnological and electronic prototyping. To sustain the laboratory, the facility will be available at very nominal charges and mostly on a pay-per-use model. Taking under notice that there is a lack of access to a state-of-the-art lab to build prototypes, SINE has come up with this initiative which can also be used by IIT-Bombay startups.

Moreover, scientists from IIT-Bombay have also built a technology that utilizes the patient’s immune system to fight cancer. According to the source, the technology is also known as immunotherapy and can cost close to Rs4-5 crores. However, researchers believe that a similar technology developed in India can be made available to cancer patients for Rs 15 lakh. It is also being said that the pain involved in this treatment would be lesser than chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation. The experts also believe that the chances of relapse are also quite low with this method.

The treatment might take a while to become mainstream in India but it is proven to be particularly effective against leukemia. The scientists also believe that if the method becomes successful even in a small margin of patients then it will surely bring a massive change in treating cancer in the country.
