The IIT admission process for 2025–26 includes special channels such as Olympiad, Sports Excellence, and Fine Arts and Culture Excellence, through which students will get admission to UG programs based on demonstrated achievements in these areas.

JoSAA Counselling: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling is conducted at the national level for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Admission to IITs will be based on JEE Advanced 2025 ranks, while seat allotments for NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs will be made according to JEE Main 2025 ranks. Apart from this, some of the IITs also provide admissions through special channels: such as Olympiad achievements, Sports Excellence, and Fine Arts and Culture Excellence allowing eligible candidates to earn undergraduate seats by demonstrating outstanding talent in these fields.

IITs Admission through Olympiad/Sports Excellence/Fine Arts and Culture Excellence

The following Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will admit students to their undergraduate (UG) programs for the Academic Year 2025–26 through special admission channels focused on Olympiad achievements, Sports Excellence, and Fine Arts and Culture Excellence. IIT Madras

IIT Madras offers admissions through three excellence channels. Candidates seeking admission through the Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) channel can apply via ugadmissions.iitm.ac.in/sea. This portal also allows applicants to include undergraduate programs from IIT Indore in their preference list.

For those applying under the Fine Arts and Culture Excellence (FACE) channel, applications can be submitted at ugadmissions.iitm.ac.in/face. This channel is applicable exclusively to UG programs at IIT Madras.

Students eligible for the Science Olympiad Excellence (SCOPE) channel can apply through ugadmissions.iitm.ac.in/scope, which is also specific to UG programs offered at IIT Madras.

IIT Kanpur

IIT Kanpur will admit students through the Olympiad channel for the Academic Year 2025–26. Detailed information about the admission process can be found in the Admission Notification PDF. Eligible candidates can apply through the Olympiad Admission Portal at https://pingala.iitk.ac.in/OL_UGADM/login.

IIT Gandhinagar

IIT Bombay

Q:   What minimum marks are required in JEE Advanced to get a seat in IITs?

It's difficult to predict the minimum marks required to get selected in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in JEE Advanced as it depends on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of students appearing for the exam, and their performance. However, to give you an idea, the minimum marks required to get selected in the IITs vary from year to year and also differ based on the category of the candidate. Q:   Will IIT seats increase in 2025?
A:

Yes there has been a notable surge in the number of available seats for BTech courses at IITs. In 2025, the total number of seats have been increased to 18,160. This year 400 seats have been added across the 23 IITs.

In 2024, the total number of seats available were 17,760. In 2023, the number of Btech seats in IITs were 17,385. 

IIT Bombay will admit students to its BS in Mathematics program through the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO). Candidates can check admission details at: math.iitb.ac.in/Academics/bs_programme.php.

IIT Indore

IIT Indore will admit students through the Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) channel.
