MHT CET CAP 2026: B.Tech Admissions Rise by 15,181; Over 29 Thousand Seats Still Vacant

According to reports, Maharashtra recorded a rise in engineering admissions through the MHT CET counselling process. A total of 1,81,927 students secured admission to engineering courses after four rounds of MHT CET CAP and the institutional level admission rounds. This is 15,181 higher than last year, when 1,66,746 students were admitted to participating colleges in Maharashtra.
According to the data, 2,51,726 candidates registered for engineering admissions in Maharashtra this year. The admission process covered 2,21,646 engineering seats across 387 colleges affiliated with 17 universities in the state. Of the total seats, 2,03,293 seats were available through the CAP process. The remaining seats were available through other admission routes, including the management quota.

The four CAP rounds together accounted for 1,40,554 engineering admissions. Round 4 recorded the highest number of admissions among the four rounds.

MHT CET Spot Round 2026: Over 27,000 Admissions
After the four CAP rounds, admissions continued through the spot round/institutional level process. As per reports, 27,472 students secured admission through the institutional round. 13,473 admissions were recorded through the management quota, while 189 students were admitted under the Jammu and Kashmir and AICTE quota. Together, the total number of engineering admissions in Maharashtra accounts to 1,81,927.

With 97.5 percentile in MHT-CET, you have a strong chance to get admission in reputed colleges like PICT Pune, VIT Pune, SPIT Mumbai, or Thakur College of Engineering for branches such as IT, ECE, or Electrical. COEP and VJTI may be difficult for CSE. Government colleges like WCE Sangli, SGGS Nanded, and GCOE Amravati are also good options. You can get preferred branches in private colleges and core branches in government ones. Your chances further improve if you belong to a reserved category or have home university advantage within Maharashtra.
For the General HS category, the cutoff ranged from 4.33 to 20.54 percentile for M.Tech course specialisations. Therefore, students need to attain at least 4.33 percentile for admissions at COEP Pune. MHT CET M.Tech percentiles are required for admission to M.Tech courses at COEP, Pune.

With 120 marks in MHT-CET (General category), you are unlikely to get top colleges/branches (like CSE/IT in COEP, VJTI) but can aim for mid-tier private/university-affiliated colleges in less competitive branches.
Nearly 29,000 Engineering Seats Remain Vacant
Despite the increase in admissions, Maharashtra still has a significant number of unfilled engineering seats. After the CAP and institutional admission rounds, 29,042 engineering seats remained vacant. Of these, 26,682 seats were vacant among ACAP seats, while 2,360 seats remained vacant under the management quota.
