These NITs were established in the year 2009 and started functioning from the academic year 2010-2011 in their respective temporary campuses with a very inadequate area and set-up. The tasks at the permanent campus could not be finished in the way envisioned was because of the late confirmation of land essential for construction, as per the government. Apart from this, the budget sanctioned for construction works was way below the actual needs.

These new NITs will be completely functional from their particular permanent campuses by 31st March 2022 on account of the approved revised cost estimates, as per the statement. There would be an overall capacity of 6320 students on these campuses. In the field of engineering and technology, NITs are considered to be institutions of national prominence recognised to be among the best teaching institutions.
