As all competitive entrance examinations and admission in institutions of higher education are interlinked, national guidelines with tentative timelines will help the states for framing appropriate strategy., Odisha Chief Minister said.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Central government should issue a time frame for Board Exams 2021 as well as competitive exams like JEE 2021 and NEET 2021. In a letter, Patnaik has written, "In absence of clarity on academic session and conduct of both Class 10th and 12th Board examinations, all enrolled students and their parents and teachers are in a state of uncertainty. It is leading to anxiety among us all."

At present, the CBSE and NTA have not shared any exam dates, leaving thousands of students in a state of flux.

"As all competitive entrance examinations and admission in institutions of higher education are interlinked, national guidelines with tentative timelines will help the states for framing appropriate strategy. It will also help the students to plan their preparations accordingly," he added.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, not only the schools have been forced to remain closed in the country, but it has also caused disruption in this year's academic calendars severely. The board examinations which are usually completed in February and March and results released by April – May, were pushed to July and August.

A similar concern has been raised for national level competitive exams like JEE and NEET which are conducted by the National Testing Agency – NTA. With the dates for Board Exams still not clear, the dates for entrance exams cannot be decided, which in turn again creates confusion for the next academic session.

With schools across the country still remaining closed until December 31 and with no announcement of the date for Board Exam 2021, the level of anxiety amongst the parent, teachers, students and even authorities is very high. With Maharashtra and Gujarat announcing their decision to conduct Board Exams 2021 in the month of May instead of February- March, many are still waiting for clarity on CBSE Board Exam 2021 Date sheet.
