The university said the provisional list of selected candidates for admission to external (part-time) PhD programmes was notified following merit order and rules of reservation.

The university said the provisional list of selected candidates for admission to external (part-time) PhD courses was released following merit order and rules of reservation.

Two days day after a students’ union protested at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) against the alleged irregularities in PhD admissions, the university clarified that the provisional list of selected candidates for admission to external (part-time) PhD courses for the 2020-21 year in various subjects of engineering, management, science and technology disciplines was released following merit order and rules of reservation.

The university issued a press release in which it said there was no violation of the rules of reservation in the selections. The BC/SC/ST candidates who qualified in NET/SET/GATE/ GPAT or JNTUH entrance test in open category were allotted open category seats only. No open category candidates were selected either for BC or SC/ST category seats.

It further that the list was verified by a committee of two expert faculty members belonging to SC/ST and BC communities and certified its correctness as per the rules of reservation, which was approved by the university higher authorities before it was released, it said. It added a few unsuccessful and non-qualified candidates were spreading false information against the Director, Admissions, selection list and the university in the media, which was highly condemnable.

The protesting students had alleged that irregularities in PhD admissions were creating difficulties for those belonging to reserved categories. They said officials were misleading the university during the admission and seat allocation process. They also burned an effigy of Ch Venkata Ramana Reddy, Director, Admissions, and demanded strict action against him by the authorities.
