The campaign is being launched on 106th anniversary of foundation of BHU on 4th February 1916.

On the occasion of its 107th Foundation Day, Banaras Hindu University is launching a fundraising campaign, titled Pratidana: Mahamana Annual Fund, which will be a living tribute to its founders and their glorious tradition of soliciting philanthrophy.

The Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain said, “Mahamana’s unmatched vision and passion brought BHU to life more than a century ago with the support of generous philanthropists. He would be proud that the institution he founded towers today as the Asia’s largest residential university and among India’s oldest and most prestigious institution of higher learning.”

“There can be no better tribute to his spirit and memory that propogating the tradition of selfless giving on which BHU was founded,” Jain added.

BHU alumni have distinguished themselves in such diverse fields as Arts, literature, government, policy, academics, law, agriculture, science, edngineering and medicine. Jain said, “It is my hope that we can leverage their time, talent and treasure as well as that of friends and well wishers in development of BHU in the years to come.”

While BHU receives generous annual support from the government for its regular operations, Jain said, “It must rely on philanthrophy of its alumni and supporters to power its transformative agenda of excellence to realize its ambition to join the leagues of the world’s greatest universities.”

Contributions to Pratidana:2022 will support scholarships for meritodious students, need-based financial aid, enhance learning opportunities, promote excellence in teaching, enable impactful research, as well as strengthen BHU’s curricular and extracurricular experience and community life. Donors also have the option to target their financial support to programs of their interest. It is to be noted that all gifts to BHU are eligible for 100% deduction under Section 80G of the Income Tax Rules of India.
