In the past, these 12 colleges have been at the loggerheads with the Delhi government over the delay in the release of grants.

Delhi Education Minister Atishi has sent a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, stating Delhi government will not allocate any grant-in-aid to the colleges from the next financial year.
Citing irregularities in the functioning of 12 Delhi government-funded colleges of Delhi University, Atishi urged Pradhan to grant full control of these colleges to Delhi government or take charge of these colleges and their funding.

Delhi Education Minister in her letter added that if the colleges continue to remain affiliated with Delhi University (DU), the Delhi government will not allocate any grant-in-aid from the next financial year.

Atishi in her letter has stated that the Delhi Government has noted several serious irregularities and procedural lapses involving hundreds of crores from the public exchequer.

Atishi in her letter has made two propositions to the Education Minister to overcome these constraints: β€œComplete merger of these 12 colleges under the Delhi Government, then they will be fully funded by the Delhi Government; The Union government may take full control of these 12 colleges under the Delhi University, in that case, the Delhi Government will stop allocating funds to these colleges.”

The 12 colleges funded by the Delhi government are Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhagini Nivedita College, Bhaskaracharya College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College, Maharshi Valmiki College of Education, Shaheed Rajguru College, and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
