JMI VC directs strict adherence to COVID appropriate Behaviour on campus

Gymnasium/Indoor Activities at the Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Sports Complex of the university have been closed till further orders.

With cases of COVID-19 going up in the national capital, Delhi has announced a "yellow" (level-1) alert as the positivity rate is recorded above 0.5 per cent. Universities in Delhi have also started issuing guidelines related to COVID-19 precautions.

Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar has asked all students and employees of the university to strictly follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour in view of the surge in Covid-19 and its new variant Omicron cases in the national capital. An office order in this regard has been issued by the Registrar, JMI yesterday.

A similar order was issued by Jawaharlal Nehru University yesterday restricting movement inside the campus and closing down all offline academic activity.

As per the order issued by Jamia, people visiting the university have been directed to greet without physical contact, maintain physical distance and follow Covid protocol. They were asked to follow these guidelines at all times and in all places on the school and university campus.

On the recommendation of the Honorary Director Games & Sports, JMI and as per the directives received from the Government of NCT of Delhi, the Vice-Chancellor has also directed to close down the Gymnasium/Indoor Activities at the Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Sports Complex of the university till further orders.

Delhi is likely to impose stricter rules even as the Covid-19 positivity rate in the city has jumped to 1.29% from 0.19% in the past week, between December 23 and December 29.

The total cases of Omicron variant in India has surged to 961, with Delhi leading with 263 followed by Maharashtra (252).
