It must be noted that this is for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March 2020, that the institute will conduct offline classes for students across courses. Though the students from second, third, and fourth-year were called on campus in a staggered manner, the first-year students have been attending the classes in the virtual mode. However, these students from first-year will be giving their mid-semester exams in person from May 30.
“The teaching-learning process was derailed in the pandemic. A lot was lost, now we cannot afford to continue with online education. As long as things are normal, we would like to resume to pre-pandemic schedule at the earliest. There is a shortage of infrastructure, but we had inaugurated a new hostel last month and we are hoping it will ease the accommodation problem,” said a professor, as reported by TOI.
In a recent survey conducted by the institute's campus magazine, only 18 per cent of the surveyed graduating batch of 2021 rated their online semester experience as excellent or very good, the rest said it was fair (32 per cent), poor (28 per cent ).
Meanwhile, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences is also planning to begin the offline classes from the new term that is starting from July 25. However, no official announcement regarding the same have been made by the institute yet.
