Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is all set to organise the third edition of the “Seminar Series on History of Ideas’ on September 10, 2022, from 3 to 5 pm, with two online seminars on the historical evolution of prominent ideas and fundamental breakthroughs in science. IITGN faculty Professor Sudipta Sarkar has curated the seminar series.  Students, faculty members, and anyone interested will be able to attend the online seminars free but will have to register online by September 5, 2022, on the following link: https://tinyurl.com/historyideas.

Professor Rhitoban Ray Choudhury from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali will deliver the first seminar on “Darwin’s Theory of Evolution: Importance and Implications”. It will discuss the historical overview of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and its implications for biological sciences.

In the second seminar, Professor Leslee Lazar from IIT Gandhinagar will explain“The History of the Brain Sciences: From a Cooling Device to Computing Device”. He will talk about some of the interesting aspects of brain sciences, the institute said. The “Seminar Series on History of Ideas” was launched by IITGN in November 2021. This year, the series aims to discuss the historical evolution of prominent ideas and fundamental breakthroughs in science.

“The motivation behind this series is to know how these remarkable ideas came into existence and what were the influences and reactions of the community as well as the broader society on them. In the last two series, prominent scientists gave seminars on the history of Quantum Mechanics, Soft Matter Physics, Relativity Theory, and the History of Algorithms,” the institute said.
