IIT Gandhinagar Introduces MDes and MTech

IITGN Programmes 2026-27: Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar has announced two new postgraduate programmes for 2026-27 academic session. IITGN has introduced Master of Design (MDes) programme and Master of Technology (MTech) programme in Maritime Engineering. This new courses are being introduced to prepare students for job opportunities and changing industry needs.

IIT Gandhinagar New MDes Programme

Master of Design programme will combine design, technology, engineering and social sciences. This course will help students learn creative thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills. IIT Gandhinagar said the programme is planned to help students solve real-life challenges using both technical knowledge and creativity.

IIT Gandhinagar MTech in Maritime Engineering

MTech programme in Maritime Engineering will focus on ports, shipping, ocean infrastructure and logistics. Students will also study rules and policies related to the maritime sector. The institute said this course focus on port development under projects like Sagarmala Programme.

Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Prof. Rajat Moona, said higher education institutions should prepare students for real-world problems and future technologies. He added that the new programmes will help students gain both technical and practical knowledge.

Students will get opportunities to work on projects with industries, startups and research labs. IITGN also encourages interdisciplinary learning, where they can study subjects from different fields together. They will also be able to gain practical experience through internships and project-based learning during their courses.
