Jharkhand govt aims to make 65,000 para teachers permanent
On the lines of Bihar, the Jharkhand government has started an initiative to make 65,000 para teachers of Jharkhand permanent.
The demand to make para teachers permanent in Jharkhand has been long-standing. The Unified Para Teachers Association has been vocal about para teachers' demands of making them permanent, preparation of manuals in favour of para teachers and non-payment of honorarium.
The government has taken a positive approach in this direction and held a meeting with all the departmental officers and representatives of para teachers to discuss the issue. The Jharkhand wants to follow Bihar's footsteps on this where the teachers have been made permanent for 60 years by taking assessment examination. Similarly, teachers in Jharkhand also want their future to be decided based on assessment examination.
On Saturday, Jharkhand education minister Jagarnath Mahato assured the para-teachers that their demands of proper payscale and regularization of service will be addressed soon.
Mahato told the media: “It has been decided in today’s meeting that the problems of para-teachers would be addressed and solved in the same manner as it was done in Bihar.”
“The norms have now been decided and we will finalise the payscale on August 18,”, he added.
