Kerala Governor Arif Mohd Khan has sent two more show cause notices to the Vice Chancellor of Sreenarayana Guru Open University, PM Mubarak Pasha and to the VC of Kerala University of Digital Sciences,Innovation and Technology. The show cause notices were sent on Tuesday.

It must be noted that so far, Kerala Governor has sent the show cause notices to 11 VCs who had earlier refused to resign. VCs were asked to resign as their appointment is not in the line with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Guidelines. The Supreme Court has also declared the appointment of these VCs void ab initio and upon this they were asked to resign.

VCs who have been issued the show cause notices will be required to show cause for their legal right to hold the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Sreenarayanaguru open University, and not to declare their appointment as illegal and void ab initio, on or before November 4, 2022 by 5 pm.

Kerala Governor had sent show cause notices to 9 VCs on Monday and had directed them to furnish their reply before November 3. These VCs were asked to tender registrations by 11.30 am of October 24. However, after they refused to resign, the show cause notice was issued to them.

"Appointment was made on the basis of the recommendation by the State Government as per Chapter 3, Clause I l(2) of the Sreenarayanaguru Open University Ordinance,2020 and not on the basis of the recommendation of the Search/Selection Committee as prescribed in the UGC Regulations," an excerpt from the show cause notice reads.

Kerala High Court had earlier passed an order that the nine Vice Chancellors can continue in office until a final order is issued by the Chancellor.
