Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that Manipur is all set to get India's first-ever national-level sports university.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur informed the Parliament that India's first-ever national-level sports university has been allocated to Manipur. The state-of-the-art university will be built at a cost of INR 643.34 crore.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur highlighted the contribution of the North-East to sports and said that sportspersons hailing from the north east have brought laurels to the country especially women sportspersons like Mary Kom , Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain. He also lauded the contribution of sportspersons Bhaichung Bhutia and Shiva Thapa.
In an oral response to a Parliament question on sports infrastructure facilities in North East Region, he highlighted the sports projects for the North East region. He further said that sports infrastructure in the North-eastern region has witnessed a remarkable transformation in the last nine years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our govt has shifted from 'Look East Policy' to 'Act East Policy,'. The central govt has emphasised sports infrastructure in the North-east region, as reported by DD News.
He apprised the Parliament that the Ministry has approved 75 sports infrastructure projects at a combined sanctioned cost of INR 520.60 crore. All essential steps are being taken to support the NE States, he said. As many as 1000 Khelo India centres will be dedicated to the country this year itself, out of which 227 Khelo India Centres are being established in the northeast, he added.
