The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai officially inaugurated the AIC-NITIE Incubation Foundation for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (AIC-NIFIE) incubation centre for startups. The event was graced by the presence of Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Jitendra Singh, who formally opened the centre. The AIC-NIFIE initiative, established under the government’s Atal Innovation Mission, aims to support emerging startups by providing mentorship, fostering industry linkages, and driving research and technological innovation.
AIC-NIFIE: Empowering Startups with Mentorship and Industry Expertise
Designed as a robust platform for innovation, AIC-NIFIE will guide startups in critical domains such as manufacturing, supply chain management, sustainability, and digital transformation. The incubation centre is expected to serve as a catalyst in nurturing early-stage startups and strengthening India’s position in the global innovation landscape.
During the inauguration, Minister Singh emphasized the importance of innovation in national growth, stating, “Innovation is the backbone of a developed India. Centres like AIC–NIFIE will be instrumental in translating India’s demographic dividend into tangible economic growth.”
According to an official press release, the AIC-NIFIE incubation centre will act as a transformative platform aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, aiming to foster a self-reliant India through innovation. Manoj K Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, highlighted the significance of this launch, saying, “The launch of AIC–NIFIE is a step towards building a dynamic innovation ecosystem within the institute. It aligns with our mission to create impact through thought leadership, research, and entrepreneurship.”
During his visit, Minister Singh also addressed the audience as part of the institute’s ‘Leadership Series,’ speaking on the topic “Viksit Bharat: India’s Startup Strides over the Last Decade and the Way Forward.” His speech underscored the progress of India’s startup ecosystem and the strategic importance of nurturing innovation.
IIM Mumbai’s Ongoing Commitment to Entrepreneurship and National Development
To date, IIM Mumbai has successfully launched 14 startups, marking significant progress in its entrepreneurship journey. The institute also hosts a Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, reflecting its commitment to cutting-edge research and national priorities.
In addition to its innovation efforts, IIM Mumbai recently celebrated International Yoga Day on campus in collaboration with Kaivalyadhama. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, officers, and staff, promoting wellness alongside academic excellence.
